Why does cake cost so much? Afterall it’s only butter, sugar and flour right? Well not quite. First there is the enquiry with lots of questions and answers to and fro. Then usually some research and googling is required. Next is the ordering and picking up of supplies, gathering ingredients, measuring, mixing, lining baking pans, cooking of the cakes, making buttercream and ganache, cleaning up the mess and washing the dishes (and believe me there is always LOTS of dishes).

After the cakes have cooled comes torting the cakes, putting layers of buttercream, covering in ganache, colouring and kneading the fondant, covering the cake, smoothing it and then the fiddly decorating. Figurines and flowers can take hours to make, let alone cutting out circles, piping, rolling, stencilling and other techniques such as carving

And don’t forget the cost of the ever increasing ingredients (butter has gone up 20% in the last year, sugar 25% and chocolate even more than that), fondant (has gone up 40%), boards, internal structure, box, non-skid mat, wires, ribbons and other bits and pieces, the travel and the actual time to make the cake!!!! I bet you didn’t realise so much went into cake did you?

Can I choose something that is not on the website? Absolutely. My repertoire and portfolio is continually changing. If you have a concept that isn’t already pictured, send me an email, facebook message or call me to discuss it. If you have an inspiration picture, attach it too. Trends are continuously changing and new techniques and products coming on the market that I am happy to incorporate.

Can I order a last minute cake? The short answer is maybe. Sometimes I can be booked out up to six weeks in advance, but other weeks I can squeeze you in. The more notice you give though, the more chance of securing a booking so try not to leave it to the week of the party! Three to four week’s notice is preferable. You can always reach out and I will see if I can take on your order, but I can’t guarantee it.

Can I just pop in and pick up a cake? No. All cakes are custom made fresh for customers. Very occasionally I offer flash sales of cupcakes, macarons and cake jars. They are advertised on my facebook page.
